Type of diabetes

Hi all

It is one month now that I have been diagnosed with type two diabetes and I am 39 years old
So I changed drastically my life style introducing a full regime of exercise on a daily basis and changed completely my diet introducing more fish and lean meat and changed the type of past I use to eat. I am at moment under Metformin slow release 1000mg 2 times daily
Originally my weight was 110Kg and I am now 93 Kg so lost 17 Kg and I have intention to loose weight until i reach my body weight of 85Kg.
so only an other 8 kg to go.
my blood control according to my dietitian is very good with fasting blood ranging from the 6.7 max to 4.8 low with an average of 6.16. My reading after the meal are below the 8 and generally from 4.8 to 7.6 with an average of 6.4.
My Dietitian today told me that I don't need to see her anymore as my blood control, is good and to keep doing what I am doing.
so all together I am quite satisfied having turn this around quite quickly. I know that the diabetes will change with time and I will have to adjust the therapy accordingly.
My question is is any one on here managed to reverse the diabetes and looking at my profile is there any chance I can achieve it. I know that reversing the diabetes only mean to stop the medication for a period and controlling it by diet and exercise.
How many other Kg should I loose and than when I reach it how do I stop the weight loss?

Thanks for the help in advance

Regards
Paolo

Well done in everything that you have acheived in becoming the 'MASTER' of you diabetic condition.
I'm sorry to say this, but having been diagnosed with diabetes will mean that you will have this condition with you throughout your lifetime though with good control it may lie there ever present hiding in the background.
Pleased don't get depressed over this issue, as getting your weight under control together with a good balanced diet and sencible exercise will go a long way in helping reduce medications and improving your quality of life.
As to what weight you would still need to loose to reach an optium value, will depend on your height and physical lifestyle, and even using the recommended measurments for both BMI and HtWtR should be taken as guidence only, as no two indivuals are identical.
You are certainly doing the right things so far, so well done.

I was once on Glimipiride but now I take no medication whatsoever. I lowered my Hba1c by diet and exercise to a point where my nurse thinks that medication is no longer necessary.

It is a mistake to think that the diabetes has been reversed. It is the same old diabetes but I have given up eating things that make it worse. If I went back to my old ways then I am sure I would need the pills again.

As to how many Kg should you lose I suppose if you worked out your Body Mass Index and got yourself out of the obese/overweight range then you can work it out for yourself.

I have heard many people say that they reach a weight plateau below which their body does not seem to want to go and it has some relationship to your controlled diet.. I think it is best to trust that since if you try to force things using unsustainable dieting you won't keep to it and you may gain weight again.
