Hi. I have been using the dana pump for a year on July eighth and stomach is covered in marks from infusion sets. Changing every three days just wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this and has a solution to calm them down.

thank you.

Unfortunately

One of the joys of using a pump is the red hole marks left when taking out an infusion set. They should only last for about 4 days though while the healing takes place and the little tiny scab drops off. Have you tried dabbing a bit of tee tree oil on the marks as that promotes the healing process? Another option is to change to using a different type of set.

Are you using Dana's version of the Orbit?

Are these just the mark left when you remove the infusion sets!

I've always got a set amount of marks, as they slowly disapearing, then I gain another when I change my sets..

I know that some use creams that containe Vit E and aloe vera which are said to help heel scaring better, but I don't bother just except that it's part of the pump regime..

i use the soft release o set and the quick setter to put it in. ive tried the tea tree oil cream but still red and a few are sore.

Have you tried Savlon at all?

You might be able to get your gp to prescribe an antiseptic/antibiotic cream.

Other than that try to use a different area on your body and give your tummy a rest or ask to try a different set.

I use a steel needle set and just leave it in for 2 days before taking it out. It only leaves a very small red mark and quickly heals.

i don't know where else to put it. my nurse only told me tummy. I am thinking of asking for steel needle. i have a slicon one at the moment that stays in and a metal one to get into tummy that i take out.

I think that if you can swop to using a steel needle set, it will give you a bit more scope as to where you can insert it on your body. The steel needle sets are more or less flat in profile so they don't catch in clothing. That's what I like about them. Taking them out is ok if you use a medical adhesive remover spray.

If they get sore it may be that you can't use the teflon ones for the 72 hours, try replacing slightly earlier.. See how you get on, some pumpers find they need to do this even with the metal ones!

The metal insert that you pull out from the teflon ones we call in our house 'hat pins'

If reducing the amount of time between changes doesn't work or changing to the steel version, try another manufacturer who has the same fitting/lock system as your infusions sets as it may be something to do with the manfacturering lubricant being used..

As to other parts of your body you can use you can insert a the infusion set anywhere you have an fat layer, so all the same sites on arms, legs buttocks and I heard of pumpers to use their breasts/chests to insert there infusion sets..

But remember though if you change area's ensure that you do extra BG checks as sometimes differennt area's can have different adsorbtion rates..

Hello :)

I found that changing my shower cream/gels helped with this issue. I stopped used heavily perfumed ones and now use Johnsons baby softwash. I always shower right before a set change as if my skin is really clean I don't get such sore sets or marks etc

After each set change I rub Savlon onto the old one to help it heal.

I also found that if I needed a larger bolus (e.g.5U) then putting it in using smaller doses (2 x 2.5 etc) stopped the site getting so sore. Most people don't need to do this but I just find it helps keep my site comfy for the whole 72 hours.
