Diet drinks - the artificial sweeteners taste vile.
Having to forswear foods I have loved all my life.
Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
On my blood test form there is a box checked for Initial Pt assesment - any idea what this is?

I will check with the surgery as soon as I get the chance but I Googled it and got no meaningful response.

Cheers

Was this your first blood test after diagnosis? If it was then that is what it means, first assessment of your diabetes.

Diagnosed last March and already had my arms stabbed a number of times.

I was expecting another HbA1c and liver assesment prior to possibly going on Metformin - as I said I will check with the surgery in case someone ticked the wrong box.

Other possible boxes in the section include U&E, B12 & Folate, Iron Studies, Glucose, Bone profile, Renal Profile.

A comprehensive test sheet - later on iy includes Syphilis Antibodies and Parasitology but fortunately these aren't ticked

Some of those tests are usually done in pregnancy

Initial PT Assesment - Initial ProThrombin - this is done to check to check how long it takes for your blood to begin clotting, and to check on how blood thinning meds (warfarin etc) are affecting this and to ensure you have no blood disorders

Hope this clears it up, no need to panic :D

Talked to the doc. - it is "Initial Patient Assesment" and basically is a liver and kidney function test - more comprehensive than the liver function I was down for originally.

Possibly because I am coming up for my first anniversary of diagnosis in March.
