Injecting on planes

Type of diabetes

Insulin
I've been diagnosed just over a year and have travelled quite a bit over this time. I have really tried to avoid injecting on a plane for a ridiculously stupid worry that we'll hit some turbulence and I'll impale myself!! But I took my levemir today on a flight and it felt a bit odd. A bit like I really needed to push hard to get the needle in and get the insulin out.
Are there any top tips or things to do different when flying??
Advice for my next trip would be very welcome.
Thanks
Andrea

Not encountered any problems injecting on planes, the only difficulty being that there's not much room in front of you when the food tray is down. Pleased you've got your first injection out of the way, nobody notices or cares as they are all too busy doing their own thing.

Mind, never thought much about the turbulence before when injecting, still its better to take the risk and get something to eat :D

:-) agree its a bit of a contortionist speciality manoeuvre to get around the tray!!
If there's anything I've learned over the last year it's that having diabetes is a series of firsts and yes glad I got that first injection fear out of the way.
Thanks noblehead.

Isn't it easier to inject whilst the tray is up?

The only time I tried with the tray down (trying too hard to be discrete) I stabbed my finger whilst my hands were under the tray and it bled profusely for ages :arghh:

Just realised I wrote took my levemir but obviously meant my QA as I was eating. Anyway yes, would have been a better idea to jab pre-tray laying but was not sure with the randomness of airline food what I would get.
Bad planning really as I was late checking in and got the dreaded middle seat.
Not sure if the suited and booted business guy next to me would have been happy to hold my food while I did the business. But hey maybe he would have
Note to self book an aisle seat next time :-)
Anyhow the injection did its job as expected so maybe it felt weird because of the situation rather than any real reason for being on a plane.
And it was **** food so maybe should just of abstained.

Yeah it would make sense Rob, but as drahawkins says you don't know what portion size your going to get until the food arrives so it's hard to estimate the carbs beforehand.
