Insulin
I have type 2 and inject with a prefilled pen and keep getting swelling at the injection site directly after, also sometimes previous sites all swell at the same time (almost like an allergic reaction).

Hi and welcome to the forum Chris.

People can be allergic to insulin and swelling at the injection site would be an indicator of this happening, I think you should contact your diabetes care team and advise them of the problems you are experiencing ,they may well change you onto another insulin to see if this resolves the problem.

In the absence of this being the reason you should make sure you use a new needle each time and inject the insulin slowly to avoid lumps at the injection site, also be sure to leave the needle in the skin for 10-12 seconds after injecting so that the insulin has enough time to disperse.

Hope you find the cause of the problem.

Hi Chris .
Which insulin you using ?

If it is Levemir - read the manfacturers leaflet from inside the packaging.
It explains with some persons Levemir can cause allergic reaction
to the preservatives used in the insulin mix .
Raised lumps and to see your GP if this is the case .

I had this temporarily happen initially - then it settled down with no more
reactions thankfully :)

I also had swelling with Levemir (for the 3 months I tried it) - switched back to Lantus and all was OK. Am now on Tresiba with no problems.

Many thanks but tried all of the above.

In that case do have a chat with your diabetes team, there's plenty of other options available when it comes to what type of insulin you inject.
