People who think they know what you need before you do
Hi all things going well with pump relatively good levels but have found this week that a lot of the sets have been coming away from the sticky tape I have now changed set 7 times in 3 days 1 was an occlusion and the one that replaced this nipped like anything so replaced that also but the rest seem to be either getting stuck on clothing ( the plastic bit ). Or the sticky stuff is not sticking properly and rolling up under my clothes then dislodging has anyone had this happen or have any suggestions how to fix it also how high up your stomach can you have the set can this be above the waistline to stop it catching ?

Thanks
Danae

Ist you need to inform animas that you have a problem with the stick. They need and should replace the faulty cannulas. They cost about £10 each so don't see why the nhs should pay for faulty ones.
As to how high the sets can go depends on you :) I start a rotation from just below the ribs and work my way down.
The simple solution for holding a cannula in place is to put some tape over it Mefix works very well.
Hope that helps :)

It might seem a bit rudimentary, but after you insert the cannula and take the needle out, are you pressing down on the sticky stuff to make sure it is attached well? I've found that the edges curl up more easily if I don't do that, and once they unstick it is a downhill slope to a set change. The other thing I tend to do is try to figure out where the natural folds in my skin are, and avoid putting a set in the middle of the fold.

I almost always put sets above my waistband - same as CarbsRok, I go up to just below the ribs. I find that the sets higher up are more likely to cause bruising, though. That almost never happens with the ones lower down.

There have been quite a few people with problems using insets, so do take that into account plus the extra tips/advice given.
Other thoughts to consider though are
are you sure your skin is perfectly dry before insertion?
Are you using body lotion or moisturising shower gel?
Is your skin naturally oily, if so consider using an alcohol wipe at insertion site allow to dry then insert new cannula.

With the Inset 2 its important to pull the set housing out in a straight line so that the introducer needle doesnt bend the cannula and also make sure that the white plastic spring is cocked before holding the set housing against the skin, pressing the sides inwards so that the spring releases ok

Sometimes faulty sets get produced where the adhesive doesnt stick that well to the skin and as such, when the set housing gets pulled away from the set, the set comes away as well. Ive had all that.... when this happens I wipe my skin first with a cheap alcohol wipe to make sure there's no body oil grime and try to hold the white spring against the skin a bit more before lifting the set housing away from the skin

If all that doesn't work then skin tac is very sticky - and you can apply that as some extra adhesive....but I agree with everyone - speak to animas as I have heard people talk about sets where the stickiness is just not very good.
