Inset II users

Candi-girl have you done your set change? How did it go? My box arrived today and yes the needles do look longer. Trying not to think about it :problem:

they sent me 6mm instead of 9mm dont fancy ringing and saying they got it wrong! next order i will ask for some to try. let me know how urs go

Just to update I seem to be doing better with my Insets since this post (hope I'm not tempting fate here!)

CarbsRok I think you were right that firing once into air was doing something to the set. Maybe not every time but since you suggested it I've been making sure I pull back and fire straight into me.

The other thing that has helped is putting a temp basal of 150% on for 2.5 hours. I check BG after 2 hours and it's now normally around 5 which means I can relax. I still leave the old set in for the rest of that day but I'm starting to get back my confidence in the pump.

I haven't tried the 8mm steel yet as I want to see how long I can go with the Insets before I have a problem. However I still plan to try and stick one in without connecting to the pump, just to see if I can do it and how it feels.

My son uses the Inset II's with 6mm sets. I am fascinated to read these posts about the glitches that people have with them.

My son has used them for about 2 1/2 years now and I think we have had no more than 2 failed sets - and that has been because blood has entered the cannula, so we've changed the set as a precaution. We have never actually had an occlusion alarm on the current pump - and we have the sensitivity set to high.

However, he did have an Animas Pump to begin with, which just lost prime and alarmed all the time, plus it gave him hypos after every time he re-primed it - which was really dodgy - so Animas replaced the pump under warranty and no more probs.

Also have never needed to adjust rates before or after set-change - just fill the cannula and off he goes. He does sometimes complain that the mechanism doesn't fire properly, in which case he will bin the set and try another one.

He uses 'Skin Tac' wipes (from Animas) to help keep the set stuck on nicely - seems to work very well but is a nightmare to wash off fingers!

Sandra I always find it interesting how different pumping is for people, even using the same pump and sets! Just out of interest does your son leave the old set in for a period? Is your son lean?

I think the temp basal for me is due to anxiety over the set change. Although I'm better than I was I will always be anxious before it and that affects my BG. I'm a wimp and not good with pain so, although mostly it doesn't hurt, I tend to remember when it does!

Also when you saw blood in the cannula did it come up the tubing? Did that insertion hurt too?

I've hit some bad veins but never seen blood in the cannula until I've removed the set. Sometimes my BG is weird so I pull the set early but otherwise I don't know until I see the blood spot when I remove the set.
