Insight pump (handset)

My son is on the new Insight Pump and handset (he was on the combo).
I think the handset to this pump is auwful. Its slow and unresponsive.
The other day it fell off his bed side table (18" high) , in the case provided
and the screen cracked. He did get a new one, which is still sluggish.
I was told if it happened again i would have to pay as the insurance does not cover this situation
Hands up all those people who have not dropped there handset.
The combo handset was more reliable.

I didn't. Not on pump anymore tho. I had my insight handset in a different case though which had more room and better than the dreadful ones they were supplying to go with it.

Donnellysdogs - slightly off topic but I just wondered what case you were using for your insight handset? I've heard the ones supplied are bad (due to get mine in Oct) so any alternative options would be handy ☺
 
I bought a phone case like a pouch you can also hang it around your neck fairly padded trouble is its just not quite big enough to get sticks and pricker in also bought a man bag with a cool section in it's pretty nifty have a look online

I used an old SD codefree meter case that I had.
 
I have had the handset now for 6 months.

I too suffer from a cracked screen. To put this into perspective my last three mobile phones have lasted me a total of 15 years.

I am in my 30s so I use my phone every day and lots of it. I have never had a broken or damaged screen.

I keep my meter it the original case in my bag which is also padded. The first sign of damage was like a bullet mark on the screen in the middle. the other was a slip where it fell 20cm and now the handset has a clear crack across the middle. With black LCD ink leaking from it.

The meter is slow yes, however technically I think this it is to stop click happy people going through the menus on the touch screen too quickly. They might update this as the handset has a USB port. Watch this space.

I also rang up Roche UK and after pushing them have been sent a replacement handset with the promise of the Combo Case which I think they forget and I will have to chase them again. They also told me that I should have it insured (which I do) however I do not think that the fragility of their screen / handset design should be covered by my and everyone else’s home issuance. As a side note Direct Line were very competitive to cover the pump for use outside of the home. That is just for information I don't work for them or endorse them in anyway.

As an Engineer I would consider this product "Not Fit for Purpose".

I would be very interested to see a consumer test on the pressure required to damage the screen both from directly pushing on the screen and drop force needed to crack it. I feel the product would perform very badly.

There is a lot of moaning about the handset there but if you keep it safe in a hard case, maybe get a screen protector etc etc you should be okay.

In general the whole system gets a 4 out of 5 due to the vast improvements in my control. I might have to change that mark if the next one breaks.

I agree with the comment that it is "not fit for purpose" (I'm an IT professional)

Your comment that the meter speed could be to stop click happy people makes sense but why should we all suffer because Roche saw fit to dumb down their product, The additional safeties on the cannulas are another example of going overboard on the safety features. Note to Roche, I am fed up with being treated like a child - give us the ability to use the old flex link cannulas and to fasttrack the boluses or allow your reps to switch off the safeties if we demonstrate adequate intelligence

The old combo treated us like sensible adults and it was durable and hard wearing.
 
Update - we have just seen the Roche rep and there is no problem going back to the Spirit Combo - a new one will be with us in a few days. Apparently anyone who doesn't like the Insight can ask to go back but they don't publish that info as they want users to give the Insight a proper try first.

All credit to Roche, they have taken on board my comments and are moer than willing to replace the Insight. Good customer service. I even suggested they may want to alter the Insight menus to make it less convoluted for users who are fed up with the Health and Safety overkill that they have introduced
