I'm still a little stunned!! I was diagnosed as Type 2 in April 2011 and was confused as I am only about 4 kilos more than I should be, am very active re gym and yoga and very health conscious .... oh well tough luck and I resolved to be more pro active ... my diagnosis was made in South Africa and I was given what my doctor called an AbH1 reading of 7.7 ... with daily workouts and even stricter dietary control and a prescription for 2 x 500mg of Metformin per day my next reading was 6.3 ..... I then returned to UK and had a reading of 6.2 .... the Doctor and DN both declared that they were totally happy with this and to continue with what I was doing ..... Well I just felt this wasn't good enough so went into research mode .... I came across Dr. Bernsteins book and then your site with all it's forums ... amazing and really impressive ... thank you all so much for this life raft! Only 5 days ago I began a committed low carb regimen and this is where 'stunned' comes in ... I have dropped 2 of those 4 kilos and my BS varies between 4.6 and 5.3 .... I am truly excited that I might have a chance of sustaining normal BS but have a fear that this will prove to be short lived .... I love fish, chicken, veg and salad plus a glass of red wine in the evening ..... I would love breakfast suggestions because I do enjoy eggs but don't want them every morning ... any suggestions? Is low carb really the answer it appears to be? Do most of you take statins ... my Doc seems to be insistent!
