Insulin and low carb

Can someone help me with my struggle to go low carb? I have Lada, been on insulin for the past 6 years. Currently I have no consultant nor diabetes nurse. I pretty much guess what I am supposed to do. I take 11 units of Land is, morning and evenings and I use a ratio of 0.75units per 10g of carbs of Apidra at meals. I have tried several times to go low carbs and always ended up failing, getting hypos, and giving up after gaining a pound. Please someone help me. I really want to loose weight.

I am sorry that I have no advice to give as I have no experience of using insulin but this comment will bump your thread back up the list. Hopefully someone will see it and offer some hints and tips. Good Luck.

We can't advise you on dosing at all, that's between you and your consultant. Do you want to tell us why you aren't seeing anyone for your diabetes?
I'll tag @Mel dCP , she's T1 and low carb.
Good luck!

You do really need to have a diabetes care team - who is writing your insulin prescription?

I eat extremely low carb and had to drastically cut my basal insulin - by around half, and almost immediately to avoid hypos. How many grams of carb a day are you eating?

Hi,
Please go and see your GP, and ask to be referred to a specialist nurse. They will be able to advise you.
Take care

Keep reading as much as you can absorb. This site and its members are a fantastic resource for people like you, like me, who have found their way to here. Ask questions! If you want to know the answer to a question... YOU have to ask the question!

I have found out more here in my first month than my doctors have told my in the last goodness knows how many years.

I have had some really bad advice from my GP and the nurse Five mins looking on the web proves they know very little about what Diabetes really is, and more importantly how to treat it!

Granted we must NOT tar all doctors and nurses with the same brush. However I know I am not alone thinking these things.
Ever day it seems new people join and post the same ('Wrong') guidance and information they have been given by the very people who are there to 'help' them.

Following this. I'm a type 1 and I'm terrified of hypos and ketosis as I'm clueless. Trying to read up on it but I'm easily confused x
