So, I was only diagnosed 3 months ago, so probably still in my honeymoon phase. I made the decision to start carb counting very early on because that's just how I'm inclined. I know it's not very reliable when in the honeymoon phase, but it gives me peace of mind.

Before Christmas day, my ratio was around 15, and now it's seems to be approaching 7 or even 6. Is this due to inapparent illness, end of my honeymoon period, damaged insulin?

Bit worried that suddenly maybe with a pen change or I lose this elusive illness that I'm gonna go hypo because of an overdose?

Anyway, I hope you all have a fantastic new year and may 2018 bring us even more hope and gifts as diabetics.

It's normal for your insulin needs to change a lot during the honeymoon. However, it also could be illness, stress, or bad insulin. It's impossible to predict if or when your needs will change back, so to avoid hypos just keep testing as usual, (extra if you have hypo unawareness), and make sure you review hypo symptoms and treatment.

Im still honeymooning after 6.5 months and I do carb count but I've not given myself any carb to ratio doses. This is because at the moment I know i can eat roughly 100g carbs and take 2u of novorapid. This is only with meals I know my body can deal with. Pizza and co it's trial and error. Any bread bar burgen bread is off the menu as no matter how well I think I've cracked it, I get a late spike in blood sugar.

I've decreased my Lantus to just 2u from a huge 4u back in June as I was dipping into the hypo zone a lot.

You just have to test a lot before food and then 2 hours after. You will get an idea how your body deals with it so you can give yourself x amount of units to cope. Write everything down for future reference and that way you can tell if your body is not coping as well as it was a few weeks ago.

I have an active job, sun- thurs and I know I can keep levels at an ok level. Fri and Sat I eat more but take more insulin but I'm not as active and I see the differences in my readings.

It doesn't take long even during the honeymoon period to realise which foods spike you and which ones are fine. Christmas day I ate like a king, drank like one as well. My highest bs test was 8.9 mmol. On Boxing day I had a few chips and chicken sarnie ( white bun) and I was 12 mmol and this was 6 hours after eating.

I've took my insulin and felt nothing's happened at times, some pens were opened for 2-3 weeks but I changed them and things seemed to settle. Dodgy insulin? Or a sly custard cream? No one knows the real answer and as a t1 this is how it is.

Good luck, sorry if that doesn't make sense as I'm having a few drinks for new year as I'm at work new years day.

I hope you have a good time though :) Amazed at how incredibly low your doses are though! 100g of carbs at the moment would need about 13 units of NovoRapid.

I was diagnosed at 42 and was caught quite quick so I think I will have an extended honeymoon. Without the insulin, even the 2u Lantus I would struggle. I just think my body has had a break and with the extra insulin it has sort of sprung into life a bit. But I'm like an old car, somedays I'm fine, where other days I just can't seem to get going.

I can eat about 50g carbs with no rapid insulin, that's when im at work. And I normally eat similar things at the moment. Chicken curry, rice etc. Ravioli on burgen bread toasted. It works for me. I can eat rice ok, but bread, bar the burgen is a no go.

I tend to joke things off at the moment, it's my way of dealing with things, always has been. Saying that I'm dreading the end of the honeymoon, but after a while it will all become second nature to us and hopefully a miracle cure and a lottery jackpot win will come our way soon.
