Insulin dosage

Hi all I'm wondering if anyone else is having to inject high dosages of insulin I'm on toujeo 300 double star. Long lasting is 140 units per day .also humalog which is 5 units per carb my hb1a at the moment is 57 my average readings over a month are 5.3 I'm walking now 2miles a day I think that 140 units a day is a lot for the long lasting my nurse keeps asking why I'm using so much should I be using less?

Who said to go to this dosage ? Was it the nurse ?
I am Toujeo also, but it is solostar (that is the lesser strength) at 42 units a day with a Bolus of Trurapi at 5 uits 4 times a day

Some do just need more than others, if its what you need, its what you need - no matter whether the nurse thinks its a lot or not
There can be very big variations between what people need.

PS. I think you said you're aType1 somewhere - would help if you could fill that in in your profile - just makes it easier for people to see

On a DAFNE course I went on (about 5 years ago now) you could see the differences - I can only remember the bolus rather than basal differences, but one person needed only one unit for 50g carbs, another needed 1 unit for every 2 carbs
But it shows different people need different amounts - substantially so in some cases - just because

if you have access to a CGM fastiing periods should remain relatively flat. (multiple daily injections can qualify ...)

some people may require a lot less however there are others which require more.

check page: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/insulin/adjusting-basal-bolus-insulin-doses.html

this is another relevant page nhs. https://www.nhstayside.scot.nhs.uk/OurServicesA-Z/DiabetesOutThereDOTTayside/PROD_263751/index.htm however you would really need to seek medical advice if unsure as we are not allowed to directly give dosage advice.

If your type1 it could be worth asking for education course. such as dafne listed above if you've done that already it maybe beneficial for a refresher. there is also bertie course which nhs can refer you to which can be done entirely online at your own pace.

whatever works for you is the right dosage.

another option you may have rather than education course is that you could request a referal to a diabetic dietician who is able to go more tailored advice than a dsn can. they are able to check glucose logs and give advice to your needs.
