Hi, I'm a newbie so this question may have been posted before. What is the average doseage of insulin? I take 1040 units of Humalog and 300 units of Lantus each day. Is this as excessive as I think it is?

There isn't a average dose of insulin, too many variables, such as weight, activity, insulin assistance, and food you eat etc... So basically you need what you need to control your diabetes..

An rule of thumb, and what is often used as a starting point, it's said that for every 1kg of body weight a T1 will use between 0.5-0.8 unit's of insulin per day.. But this is only a rough guide as different insulin have slightly different, amount used for a 1kg of weight......

Hello and welcome everybody is different so I wouldn't say there is a 'norm', at the moment I take about 10 to 12 units during the day and I'm stuck on 12 at night ( I have to do this, as told by DSN, but it was normally 15 to 16 at night. Lots of changes going on for me at the moment though. Best wishes to you
