Insulin ID cards?

Messages

Hi All,
I have just been informed by my GP surgery that I will now need to present the pharmacist with an Insulin ID card whenever i collect my insulin in future. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this or if this is just some hairbrain new policy from my Local Health Authority or GP surgery. Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Regards

Insulin ID card......never heard of this before :?

I wonder if it's for the benefit of the Pharmacy and not the patient so that they can check if they are giving you the right insulin? There's been a member on here before who have been given the wrong insulin due to an error by their gp practise and do wonder if this is a safeguard to prevent such incidences happening again in the future.

I have one,I don't have to show it to the pharmacist but it's more for if I have to go into hospital or need a paramedic and it's colour coded so for example, they don't administer Humilin s or Humalog by mistake instead of the Humalin I that I use which apparently does happen.
