Type 1 Insulin injections?

I was wondering is there much difference using different size pen needles i use 4 mm ones other sizes, its getting to the point where its getting painful to use, for example today i stuck the needle in 5 times in different places before i could insulin my self if this keeps up it will put me off taking it.
 
4mm are the smallest needles.

You might want to see your diabetic specialist nurse for some training on how to inject youself. If the needles in, that all you need to do to push the button down and complete the injection. I don't understand why you would jab youself 4 more time before completing the injection. Unless there's some problem with your pen?

Do you replace the needle each time? They are only designed to be stuck in once really.

It's no ones favourite thing to do. So even if you are put off injecting, you're going to have to keep doing it. With the right injection technique it shouldn't be painful.
 
I wonder if this is more to do with the act that the actual pain! I mean that in the nicest possible way but you are newly diagnosed and the thought and act of injecting is quite frightening! I don't find injections hurt, the needle is fine and fairly painless so I think you probably need some help as caterpillar has said is shouldn't hurt that you feel the need to keep doing it'! You will get there I am sure but you may just need a little help and you probably need to relax a little, easier said than done I know but you will get more fluent in it! Good luck x
 

Where are you injecting? Injections aren't fun, but your technique will improve and hopefully that will help a lot.

Is it all your injections that hurt or just when you use a particular insulin?
 
I find this too! Not every injection but the odd one as soon as the needle touches my skin the pain is shocking..almost like I touched a nerve..and like you I move the needle to another spot maybe a few times before I find a place that doesn't hurt! It happens me maybe once in every 10 injections.
 
Just injections , am injecting all round belly trying not to hit same points, or the some of the bruises that they have caused, am using the novo round belly, dont have problem with the glargine which i inject in me behind.am a skinny person so dont have lot of fatty places to inject.
 
@anth77 Hello and welcome.. I had blips when injecting at first.. it takes a little practice and once you get comfortable with the process it becomes easier. I had the odd awkward needle that does need a little more of a push to get into my skin, they do sometimes sting a little more. I would ask your nurse for any suggestions they may have. Hope this helps.
 

You shouldn't be bruising too often, make sure you use a new needle with every injection and mention your injection issues to your DSN, they'll inspect your injection sites and will offer some advice on your injection technique.

Just one other thing, try not to get too tensed up prior to injecting as this doesn't help matters. Good luck.
 
Try your thighs, my stomach is pretty sensitive, thighs are fine.
 
What diameter needles do you use? I really noticed when the pharmacy accidently gave me thicker ones... Perhaps it's worth asking your GP for thinner ones?
