My 18 year old son has been type 1 diabetic for nearly 4 years. He injects 4 times a day or at least that what he is supposed to do. I hear today that Teresa May, MP, has been diagnosed and is only injecting 2 times a day. Is this a possibility for anyone and how does it work?
An ever worried mum.
Hello .
Usually a Basal only - split dosed [with certain insulins] is started off .
As a new insulin user - there is a
lot to come to terms with etc .
Once got the hang of this - plus new routine/regime gets more familiar
And the confidence grows etc...
Plus the more knowledge/understanding of the complex things that can affect 'spike' our blood sugars.
Like certain foods eaten, illness , stress , infections , dental treatment ,antibiotics/steroids,
even the weather changes can affect our blood sugar levels!
A Bolus regime is gradually/eventually introduced/added into the Basal regime .
This is when the 2 daily injections can become the 4/5 shots a day .
Depending on each individual persons 'needs' ...
Some persons 'can' and 'are' started off on both immediately though I must stress .
Without knowing the full medical facts of Teresa May - it is hard to say for sure
just how or why it appears she is basal regime only possibly .
There is
so much to learn and discover about Diabetes .
I am
still learning even now as I go along in my own journey .
Thank goodness for this place
It has helped and supported me and others immensely .
Hope this can help .
Anna .
