Insulin into my stomach making it look fatter.

I inject my insulin into my stomach(humalog/lantis) and its giving me a big stomach and i want to lose it how would i be able to lose it without making my bloods really high or low or should i stop doing it into my stomach and move to my legs or another area of the body. someone help?

Hi jreid and welcome.

I don't take insulin so can't comment on the actual usage but do you mean you have 'lumps' where you inject or is your tummy large overall? I'm unaware that injecting into the stomach causes it to be large but there will be insulin users along soon that may be able to help.

If your tummy is starting to look bigger because of injecting into it so much, use your backside (thigh) area to do your background (lantus) and your arms or legs for the fast (humalog). Insulin works a tiny bit faster in the tummy but doing injections in the arms works nearly as quickly. Legs take a tiny bit longer but either arms or legs can be used. You may or may not, need to use a different insulin to carb ratio though.

Leave your tummy be for at least 6 months so it has a rest and rub some bio oil (or liquid parafin) on it regularly to try and get rid of the lumpiness and have a very good moan at the dsn or doctor who told you to only inject in your stomach Grrrrrr
