Insulin less effective as it gets older?

I "think" i have noticed that the older my Apidra gets the less effective it gets ... has anyone else noticed this?

A pen i am currently using expires in Nov 24, so still in date, but i have been high since i started using it, the last pen i used was March 25 expiry.

Although in date, has anyone else noticed that you should really only be using new pens with a later expiry date?
They are kept in the fridge, so no difference in storage.

Or are there "bad" batches?

I was looking this up the other day. Most insulins (whether kept in the fridge or not) expire 28 days after opening.

The refers to when you start using a pen, cartridge or vial but not when you open the box that contains 5 pens or cartridges.
But it does highlight the point (not related to this thread) that in use pens do not need to be kept in the fridge.
