I've been on Levemir for nearly two months and after a positive first week, my readings have been getting steadily higher yet my dosage has been increasing?

My target BG is 7.5 fasting - my recent fasting levels average over 10.5 and my dosage has increased from the initial 10 units a day, to 48.

I am on other medication for, Blood Pressure, Gout, Cholesterol and Gliczide and Metformin plus medication for tingling/aching calf muscles.

Has anyone had a similar issue with BG levels when new to insulin?

Regards

Hi jung,

After 2 months, I would go back and discuss this with your diabetes nurse, as it would seem that you are having some difficulties getting the dose right. It may be that you will have to change insulin's, or split the dose you are taking, this often works too, but you still need to discuss this so do make that phone call.

Thanks for your reply Nigel.

I saw my GP today, and the advice is to carry on as is to establish the correct dosage. It now seems 95% certain that I have a form of Sleep Apnea to add to my list of woes and that it is thought that this, plus all the other non-diabetes medication, is causing me to feel so C**p and is adversley affecting my BG readings.

Perhaps maybe someone else may be along soon to explain the link, but people with diabetes have a heightened chance of having sleep apnea. I was checked out for this condition last year, but my results came back fine, but my consultant said it was common condition in diabetics, with most not knowing they have the condition.
