While looking up whether the plastic covers of insulin pen needles can be put in the recycling box, I discovered something that appears to be just starting and think it is a very good idea. It's called PenCycle by Novo Nordisk and applies to their pre-filled pens which means you can put your empty used pens into a box and either take them to Boots pharmacy or you can mail the full box to Novo free of charge (a box holds 12 pens). I was very concerned when I was changed from the pen with replaceable cartridges to one you just throw away so I am really glad that I discovered this. I will have to send for a box from the website as the Boots I went into haven't got any of the boxes or advertising out yet so it must be very new and well worth doing rather than the pens going into landfill.
