Hi,

We are thinking about relocating to Gran Canaria within the next year. As a pump user I was wondering if any of you good people had experience of the Spain health system, cost of insulin and usage of insulin pumps in Spain.

Your thoughts and comments would be welcomed

Alan

Will you be working there?

Omnipod user .
Can only tell you that 18 years ago when bag snatched including my last Novo pen had to get prescription for new pack . Cost £35 then . (Not covered by insurance) ps have since made sure to take at least 50% more than I need .
However if u are a British citizen won’t you still be entitled to medication? If so may be cheaper to fly to Uk to collect? Visit regularly but not seen anyone with pump.

@Heathero UK prescription entitlement is based on residency not on citizenship.
If you do not live in the UK, you are not entitled to NHS prescriptions.
Have known British people living in Spain going back to England for care re medical problems they need treatment for, on the Nhs . Presumably excludes prescriptions ?

I don't know the specific cases.
However, I have read of people maintaining a "permanent UK address" to entitle them to prescriptions.
I am not a lawyer but my understanding is this could be considered fraudulent if they do not actually live in country.
Complete fraud!!

Fine this doesn’t really affect me, however we treat do tend to treat many people in England each year who are not from England are not charged and generally do not have residency yet .
Maybe it’s got something to do with British people receiving their pension from UK ? However I also know that many use Spanish hospitals via insurance.
