hello
I am in need of advice.
I am going on an aircraft this week and am concerned about my insulin pump. it is the first time i have traveld over sea with it and was wondering what to do at check in. the pump is not allowed to go through the security scanner because it will damage the software and i cant take it off for them to put through a scanner for the same reason. Has anyone travelled with it before and what have you done ?? really need some advice.

Thank you

Not a pump user myself but there are a few pump users on the forum who will answer your question and offer you some advice, weekends can be quiet on the forum so don't be put-off if you don't get a reply today.

There's nothing like leaving things to the last minute is there?

Surely the information is in your pump handbook? I know it's in mine.
Even the basics of getting a letter from you GP or pump nurse has been left rather late.

You do need to take a letter from the pump company with their guidance and a letter from your GP/consultant to explain that you're on a pump. When I went through Manchester in May (first time to travel with pump as well) I had all the letters but they still insisted I go though the new Body scanners even though you MUST NOT take your pump through. In the end I agreed to take off my pump and they manually swabbed it - I then went through all the necessary security and my pump was reconnected the other side. It was only off for some 5 minutes but the whole thing did stress me a bit and other posters say you should not be made to remove it.
You'll see other posts on here where people have no issues at all and they've been allowed through and then scanned with the hand wand which is fine. Coming back through the Greek airport just opened the gates for me to come through no problem. Good luck
