Hi. I've been diabetic for 28 years and on an a pump for 13 years. Since being on the pump I've only ever used my stomach for the cannulas. A few weeks ago I had a massive bleed and have had trouble controlling my levels for about a year.....so I decided it was time for a change. I'm not comfortable with the cannula in my leg, it's seems to be a lot more in the way! I've accidentally pulled it out quite a few times.....any general hints and tips for cannulas in the legs, or arms for that matter!!

You could try your sides or lower back.

I've tried my legs but had issues, I also use my arms but I'm on a tube-free pump.

Hi @Gemarky , I only started pumping in October and to start with I used my tummy, as it was where I'd been injecting for decades so I was used to sticking things in it!

However I soon found some issues there, so started using my spare tyre. If you look on this thread you can see what I mean - there are some pics on there. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/opinion-on-pumps-as-debating-changing-over.105464/

Much comfier, and no problems so far. Not tried arms or legs yet but I don't really fancy those!

:)

hey @Gemarky
welcome to the forum !!
i have only been pumping 10 months so my experience so far has been that stomach , and upper backside , and upper arms have been best -- I did not like upper legs either.

I am also on the tubeless pump -- omnipod

Thanks. It's funny how you get in a rut with things. I thought after 13 years of pumping I knew everything.... If generally no one like legs then I might just stop trying!! I thought it was just me!

Hi, I also have issues when putting my cannula in my leg! However I know some people that only ever use their legs, I think it's obviously personal preference,
When I want to give my stomach a break I use my sides, I find it a bit uncomfortable in my back, but upper arms is great for me also, the only thing is I don't put it there during summer much as I'm worried I get a cannula shaped tan Mark

Try a different cannula for the leg and also put some tape over it so it doesn't get pulled out.

Interesting, as I'm a bloke feeding the tubing through a bra isn't an option as at the moment i don't need to wear one lol. I could however use some form of hair grip lol.
