Where do you get the belt the pump attaches to?and does the wire get in anyone's way ? Is it easy to get used too?

Do you mean the belt that goes round the top of your leg? There is some pump accessories on the diabetes uk website.

I've been on the pump for 8 years this coming January and it does take a while to get used to and can be annoying to start but bare with it and you soon get used to it.

The tube annoyed me sleeping as the tube was too short to move around so I changed to a longer tube and that works better

My nurse gave me my first belt and cover for pump. Worthwhile checking if your nurse will give you them.. You may have the accuchek rep showing you as well, so the rep may have them. If not I think I still have mine, which I don't use. If you've posted 5 times you should be able to pm me with postal details and I can send it on to you.

You should also be given different monitoring diaries.

You will need a fairszed holdall to take away all the stuff you will be given...

If your talking about the one I think you are then your rep should be able to give it to you for free (mine did) otherwise google it. They are about 15£ but they are worth it I would say.

I honestly have no problem just putting the pump in the bed and (touch wood!) haven't had a problem yet

I too use a long tube, but I'm different to everyone else here because I devised my own way to wear pump on my arm, and use a 100cm tube to put sets in my bum.
I never have any problems sleeping with pump or tube and never caught any of it as when I'm dressed everything is inder my clothes except for the remote.

Accuchek have a website where you can look up eveything and also order spare cases etc.. But initially they should give them to you..

Hi thanks for the advice I shud have mentioned its not for me its for my 9 year old .
Thank you donnolysdog for the offer that's very very kind but doubt will fit as its child .i did ask nurse but she said depends if the rep has any on her and to look in sports direct ? I have looked online but they don't do anything for diabetics . I'm worried about the tubing getting caught and ripped out but u lot seem to have no problem so fingers crossed and suppose if we get one that disconnects I can disconnect her at gymnastics . We were given date 27th jan but its cancelled and were now getting it 18th jan,I've sent off for a info pack about pump and hopefully I will get a chance to talk about all my questions before the actual date

Hi

The belt in question I think is called the SpiBelt. Sports Direct do their own version of it. Funky Pumpers also do tummy belts for pumps and they are based in the UK so do have a look online

Someone else on the forum mentioned ages ago about using a baby alarm to pick up the Occlusion alarm on a pump which seemed to me to be a really good idea as it will help you sleep better knowing that if the pump develops a problem where its not able to deliver insulin through the tubing and into the cannula ok, the Occlusion alarm going off will be loud enough to be picked up on a baby alarm next to Chloe's bed and if you have the other alarm next to you, you will hear it good and proper.

Also, go for the Flexlink 6mm set with about 80cm tubing and then that will give you more scope as to where to put the pump at night in bed. I tend to put it in one of those fabric drawstring sunglass cases (99p, poundland ones) and make a hole at the other end using a punch and then thread a loop of elastic or chord and hang it around my neck or use the same procedure with the silicon skin, then if I get up in the night, the pump comes with me and I don't have to worry about picking it up or having it falling on the floor. The other benefit is that if the Occlusion alarm goes off, I quickly hear it and also feel the vibration.

You have read my mind that's the one downside which put me off the pump ,dreaded nights worried about it not working and waking to her poorly in the morning, that is a fantastic idea I love this site people like you have helped me out so much and I'm very gratefull .
