Hi everyone,

I started on an insulin pump when I was 20 weeks pregnant and even the original settings they put me on were far too high. I'm trying to set a programme for post pregnancy but I feel like I'm going in blind due to not having a pump before I was pregnant so I wondered if any of you can remember were you on more or less insulin at roughly 20 weeks pregnant?

I've set my basal for what it was a week into the pump when I wasnt having as many hypos and will probably take it from there..Hopefully!!

Hi there!
Prepreg (January) I was on 20.15u and now at 21+2 I'm on 25.4u.

Also, I take around 25% more basal in winter than summer, at this time last year I was on 15.55u basal.

Hope that helps and you're both keeping well!

I'm sure that'll be something your diabetes team will set up for you once everything has gone back to normal. I'm glad I've been on my pump for 4.5 yrs so know what I'll bd going bk onto hopefully without too much change xx

I think ill set up another programme with another minus 20% to fall back on just incase in having lots of hypos, thanks for the help much appreciated xx

Hell yeah, I was on 12 u before falling pregnant (but on low carb diet and trying to lose weight to conceive), then during pregnancy I went up to about 30 u basal although I was also bolus ing a lot and the more you bolus the more insulin is in your system so you don't need as much basal as you may think. Then towards the end I was commonly blousing 30-40 units, and struggling to get it below 7 on that. I was on MDI not pump. It will fall right back after you deliver, I was really insulin sensitive the first few days which was great but due to weight gain sadly it didn't last and I still need more now than before I fell pregnant but hopefully if I lose weight it will go down again.

Thanks ladies I've been using a basal minus 20% of what I was 20 weeks pregnant and gone down to a 1:1 ratio from 3:1 sometimes more at the end of pregnancy and it seems to be working good although a few hypos around dinner not sure if its breakfast bolus or basal that needs to be reduced x

Hi K8tie, so glad you're okay, hope your team are giving you all the support you need. Sure you have more than enough to be doing at the mo (!) but if you get a chance get a copy / download of Pumping Insulin by John Walsh, it has helped me soooo much.

Congrats and hugs! x
