My average pre-dinner readings are steady in the low 5s (mmol/l), and my average fasting readings are steady in the mid 5s at the moment and have been slowly but steadily dropping over the months. Until two weeks ago my dinner +2 hour readings represented an increase of between 1 and 1.5 mmol/l with the occasional 2. Suddenly and without any significant change in meals the post-dinner increase has dropped to 0.5 or less and has now been like that for 2 weeks. The only other change I can think of is a return to daily (sort of) 10 minute sessions on the rowing machine to add to half an hour or so of walking.

It doesn't seem to be an instrument glitch as all other readings are as expected. I've stabilised my weight at around 70 kg having lost 20 kg, but that has been the case for 2-3 months.

Is this some kind of step change in insulin resistance? Any other thoughts?

Hi Rod,

I have no idea, but it does sound like it. Our IR does improve as the day goes on, and logically that has to be down to the fact we are active during the day, so this should be helped by additional activities such as your return to rowing.

Strangely enough, something similar has happened to me, both at lunch and at tea. My plus 2 hours at lunch has dropped steadily month by month since October, and the actual rise has halved since October with no obvious change to routine or meals.

My plus 2hr rises after tea have dropped by 0.3mmol/l in the same period, but more surprisingly, my plus 1hr after tea has dropped more than anything.

My fasting and pre-meal levels are not dropping, they are stable on the whole with no signs of dropping, but my bedtime levels have dropped.

Do you have smart scales, doing the old Karada scan, to indicate body fat or visceral fat levels? It could be your weight has stabilised, but you have continued to drop weight. I have recently noticed another notch down in body and visceral fat, with increase in muscle percentages.

That said, having been a bit under the weather recently, I have also lost another 1.5kg, which isn't great for me. I'll see how that stabilises once my appetite is back to its full force.

Que? I record my waist measurement, that has come down from 45.5 in March last year to 36 now, but again it has remained at 36/37 since November. What's a Karada scan?

The lower carb I go, the less insulin resistance I have - and at the same time, my pre-meal fasting (disregarding the DP nightmare) drops.

I can track them precisely. Uber low carb = lower IR = lower pre dinner readings.
Then if I increase the carbs, my pre dinner readings go up too.

That may be irrelevant to you and your body, but with my body, I think the exercise would have the biggest impact - with the consequence of reduced IR as a by product.

If you look up the Omron Body Composition Monitor range, you'll see what I mean. I have two of the same model; one here and one in UK, and they're incredibly consistent, one to the other.

I wouldn't want to swear away my life to the exact body fat percentages or the like, but it's additional data which can be used to track trends. We also both use the memory features to keep track.
