Insulin Resistance

Hi peoples,
Just wondering if anybody else has become resistant to insulin that you have been using for a few years, because i seem to have lost control of my glucose levels recently and now have to take almost twice the number of units that i used to need. i know it could be a result of a hard lipid layer forming at injection sites and i'm just wondering if anyone has experienced direct resistance and what did they do about it? :?

There are factors that can increase your need for insulin such as illness,weight gain and pregnancy. How is your health and BG control generally?
Many people report their insulin failing to work, usually patients on Lantus or Levemir. This is not true insulin resistance, the fault is with the medications themselves. I speak from dreadful personal experience. I thought it was working for me at first; within a year I didnt know what was going on with my BGs from one day to the next. Spent 4 years blaming my body,changing insulin proved it to be the culprit :evil: not just for lousy control

Hi, thanks so much for your reply.

Shockingly i'm actually using Levemir and i was on lantus but had an allergic reaction to it. i'm also using novorapid, which is basically levemir's orange sister. i'll definetly check it out next time i see my doctor. This was really helpful, thanks a mill. :lol:
 
THere is a possibility of developing Insulin resistance. In T1, this then becomes double diabetes. It can lead to using very large doses. The only way I've heard of improving it seems to be carb control
