Hi I probably have a daft question but to be honest the more I learn about DB the less I seem to understand
If losing weight helps dbs to have better insulin resistance where does that put dbs like me who were dx as dbs but very under weight in my case 1 and a half stone.

Hi Carol

The first comment I would make is that we are all different and we may well all be able to tell a very different story about how we came to this place where we have diabetes. I don't think that everyone suffers from insulin resistance. Some of us are overweight, some of us may never have been overweight and some of us became unwell and overweight because of the diabetes. There are perceived diabetic stereotypes which I have been unable to relate to anyone I know or have 'met' on the internet and I think these are very misleading if not totally inaccurate.

I have managed to stop my own weight loss but only by eating fairly high fat and nuts and seeds. I dread to think what my weight loss would be like if I was on the medication that was apparently the preferred option. As it is my cholesterol numbers have gone up much to the consternation of my GP. When I asked which particular parts of the overall numbers had gone up it was found to be the HDL so I am quite happy about that! I have only had one Hba1c since diagnosis and am a month away from my checkup at the hospital so I have no idea what my current situation is and have no idea where those numbers will be. All we can do is the best we can in the unique position each of us are in.

Recently I read that if we all put our problems into a communal pot and were then able to take our pick we would all probably pick the ones we had put in ourselves! That makes you think!! :)
