I use Toujeo insulin and inject at 8 am every day, yesterday it was earlier at 7,40 this may seem a bit obsessive but will 20 minutes or o make an difference ( I noticed none ) ?

toujeo can apparently stay in system longer than 24 hours. i wouldn't be too focused on injecting at same time always just roughly. fairly recently when was adjusting background the dsn told me toujeo although designed 24 hour release can take a lot longer to be used. i was told to step down every few days with upto 72 hours max.

just think when clocks change an hour wont really make a big difference.. (1/24)x100 = 4.2% for an hour. so 20 minutes 4.2/3 = 1.4% difference

(edited as remembered 20 minutes prior was based on hour)

Good point about the clock change thank you

According to https://www.diabetes.co.uk/insulin/missing-insulin-injection.html its fine up to 2 hours just have to be aware you’ve taken it a little late and it may affect your blood sugar differently through the day, based on that and like has been said above I don’t think 20 minutes is going to really affect you.

The article doesn't take into account the different types of long acting insulins. With a shorter acting basal like Levemir, two hours may cause a noticable difference, but with the very long acting ones like Tresiba and Toujeo there is much more wiggle room.

@Mark Rawlinson , for what it's worth, I'm on Tresiba which has a similar action profile as Toujeo. I take my basal last thing before going to bed, no matter if this is 10:30 pm or 6 am and it doesn't make a difference for me. Not something I'd advise others to do but still good to know.

I’m type 2 and use Lantus split doses, I never take them at the same time. When I’m at work I’m up at 5am and take it then, when I’m not at work it could be any time up to 11am same with the evening dose it could be 9.30 pm up til 11pm.
