Insulin

I'm not sure what oopsie bread contains but whether a meal contains carbs or no carbs most type 1's still need to bolus when they eat.............that is fact @nessa1970

As others have said don't get hung-up about taking insulin or carbs as this will only make you ill, fruit is a nutritious and enjoyable food and you don't have to exclude it from your diet.

Nessa, I'm not T1, so it wouldn't be appropriate for me to respond, in terms of bolus rates.

If you do a forum search, using something like "bolus for protein", you should find some informative content. There have been a few threads on it.
Thank you very much I will do that.

I will do all of that. Thank you. What do you mean by female hormones????

I do have beta cells still working. Surprises me as I would have thought that would make things a bit easier. I will definitely try different foods etc I was 4.1 before tea which was hummus carrots celery few grapes an oopsie bread. I'm hoping I'll be fine I did a bolus of 3. Tho I don't think I'd need too on that food but I did. So confused. Cheers

Oopsie bread contains cream cheese, egg whites, egg yolk salt , psyllium husk and baking powder. So I still bolus say for a plain omelette? Which contains zero carb. So how do I know what to bolus I have nothing to go by

So how do I know what to bolus I have nothing to go by

Trial & error is often a phrase used when trying to work out the bolus dose for meals that don't include carbs (or very few), I don't follow a LCHF diet but hopefully other members who do will advise @nessa1970

So I still bolus say for a plain omelette?

This is only my experience, but if I eat a cheese omelette (4 eggs) for breakfast I need to bolus 4u and on MDI I would need to split-dose, it's not much less than my usual bolus dose for my morning porridge which is 5u,

I will do all of that. Thank you. What do you mean by female hormones????

I've found that oestrogen and progesterone can affect blood sugar and insulin resistance. I've not worked out which or what exactly causes it, but an imbalance in hormones can affect blood sugar eg when on the Pill, shortly after pregnancy, at the menopause, etc. So worth checking how things are, if you can.

And you're welcome Don't despair. There IS a solution for you.

Stress Hormones play a massive part for me, adrenalin is a huge kicker of upturn in BG. I did some work activity that put me hugely out of my comfort zone, I took the normal basal, skipped breakfast, and my BG shooter from 6mmol to 20 by lunchtime.

Prebolusing?

Bolusing more in advance of your meal. So not having your meal time injection just before you eat, but further in advance This gives the insulin a chance to get working and stop spikes.

Prebolusing?

Hi @nessa1970, prebolusing is taking your fast acting insulin in advance of eating - I usually try to do this 15-20 minutes before food is ready but it can take some experimenting to find what works best for each person. It gives the insulin a chance to start working just as the carbs begin digesting. I think the exception to this is where there is also a lot of fat (e.g. pizza) where you maybe don't have to do this as the fat slows down absorption.

edit: whoops! Beat me to it
