Hi,

As I previously stated in another thread, I'm looking to start a low carb diet but before that I would like to be prepared at the best.
So I've been looking around on the forum and reading experiences from other people and I read all kind of positif stuff around teh LCHF diet but I was wondering what would be the major changes when launching myself in a whole new diet?

Which insulin are you using? I assume Novorapid (what I'm using now) wouldn't match the slow release of glucose from a meal with around low carbs and a lot of fat?

And is it true that Basal needs will increase when on a LCHF diet ? and by about how much? It would make perfect sense since your body gets less sensitive to insulin when eating fat but does this effects basal?

Thankyou!

To lose weight on novarapid and toujeo300 I had to eat low carb but not low fat. Definitely not high fat. I tried high fat and I lost nothing.
I've lost 3.5st on low carb not low fat. Basal has reduced but way way too high but awaiting bariatric surgery to help with weight loss. Novarapid can respond less on protein for me in carb absence. I have to not go too low carb.
I have to get everything....just right. I have to avoid fruit and most veg too as my thyroid and liver don't respond well. Oh it's a big job for me but well worth the effort to see my further 9sts overweight losing 1kg on average per week. Give or take added weight with water retention in stomach due to high insulin units needed to do it. My bgs have to be in long term perfect levels too.
Yes novarapid doesn't like fat nor carbs nor protein if not enough carbs.
I feel like the baby bear needing my porridge just right.

The weight loss is my reward. I'm just glad I only have to tweek mine and not 50 like some dns. Stability is key but everything effects me. Hormones before my period give my hypos and hormones after my period give me higher bgs. Oh, great fun.

"Launching myself in a whole new diet." ??? Hey Spablauw_ Do yourself a favor and don't think of this as a big change to what you eat. Instead change 1 or two high carbohydrate foods by eliminating them or find a keto substitute. Remember this is a life style change. By making small changes you will find it much easier to manage.

I think the issues are rather more complicated and the stakes / potential dangers higher for people on insulin or other meds that can cause hypos

Rather then hurling yourself into the deep end, try and reduce carbs gradually and test to see what is happening. I take insulin and do low carb, but how much I take and you take isn't something to compare.

It's trial and error to a degree and small changes work best, rather then dramatic ones, which carries a greater risk.Think law of small numbers.
