I have just taken 56 units instead of 28 units of insulin should I do something as it is 2 hours since I did it, the mistake I made is I take 56 units in the morning and 28 units at night

Hi

If this is twice daily insulin you are going to need to eat more carb and use yr bg meter to be yr guide. Try and work out how much carb you would eat at BR through to evening and then subtract the evening carb from the morning to evening carb and then that will be the difference that you can use as a sort of guide to cope with the mix up. Test bg levels during the night to make sure you dont go low and take some hypo remedy if you do.

I'm assuming it's a basal insulin you've overdosed on Chris, if so you need to monitor your bg very carefully throughout the night and take on board extra carbs to avoid your bg dropping too low. As for your usual dose in the morning I would miss it until such times that you make contact with your diabetes team, if at all concerned ring your out of hours gp service or NHS Direct for advice.
