Hi All

I have recently been diagnosed with Diabetes, not yet assessed as being type 1 or 2, in the middle of finding out.

My levels have been fluctuating and I have been on insulin for 2 weeks. When my levels are past 15 or are lowering to 11 or below I have severe headaches. THe diabetic nurse says it's normal but it's happened 3 to 4 times. Between yesterday I had these headaches all afternoon til an hour ago along with sharp throbbing pains. I rang NHS on 111 last night and they said it's due to tension headaches. But I know this isn't true, I have been stressed before and have never had these kinds of pains. I feel frustrated as I am a new teacher at a new school. I have already had so much time off, and I feel I have to quite my job and go back to day to day supply. The NHS said if these pains continue I may have to have a scan. I know these headaches are caused by the insulin though.

What can I do? Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

I doubt it's the insulin but more likely your high blood glucose levels, but people can have reactions to insulin so it can never be discounted.

I would go back and see your gp and discuss upping your insulin doses, if they are concerned about your headaches they will investigate the cause.

Good luck and hope all goes well.

Hi. Insulin doesn't normally have any side effects, but there are very occasionally some reactions. If necessary the GP could change the insulin type.

If you are not use to having your numbers get closer to normal range that insulin will cause then yes it can cause such issues until your body get's use to be ever closer to "normal" numbers
