InsulinX

Thanks for posting this. I ordered an Insulinx but I'm still waiting for it to come.How did you get an Accu-Chek Expert? Are they available online like the Insulinx?
 
Tried the insulinx recently and found the finger pricker really painful. I use a pump so dont need the insulin advisor feature. Niche market for this meter although I am sure it will suit some people.
 
The pricker probably hurt because it comes with 28 gauge lancets. These are very thick. However, the Abbott pricker will fit most lancets, not just their own brand. I suggest using it with OneTouch Comfort lancets as these are 33 gauge(the thinnest available in this country) and fit in the Insulinx pricker. Generally the thinner the lancet the less it hurts.
 
The expert is available only from your DSN as they have to setup the bolus wizzard for you.

The reason that the insulinx is sent direct is that it comes with the bolus wizzard deactivated, and a passcode is needed to set it up, so you should take it to your DSN to have that feature set up... I have the code so set mine up without the need of a dsn.
Without the wizzard it works just like any other meter.

Yes the finger pricker is rubbish, but i have a few of the accu-chek multiclix, and i will carry on using that as it is a much better device.. Remember just because you have an abbott meter, you dont have to use the abbott lancets... The best lancet device i own is the pura mylife one
 
Very good comparison video which emphasised just the thing which drove me mad which is the awful backlight as even in daylight was too dim also the lack of ability to factor in expected activity was a minus point for me however just loved the abbott strips so easy to use with less wastage due to expert needing such a large drop of blood all in all the expert is best for me

And if for some reason you dont get enough blood on, then you have 60 seconds to apply more,

My main reason was being able to use it with the mac though, few meters allow that, only other one i know of is the contour usb
 
I have an InsulinX and been using it for 3/4 weeks now. I get on well with it, the display is ok once I worked out how to use the backlight when required.

I like the bolus calculator saves trying to work out dosages when you have different carb ratios.

The finger pricker is quite low quality and I can't see it lasting for long but as mentioned you don't have to use an Abbott pricker and once it breaks I'll go back to my Accuchek but on the plus side it is small. The number of times I've pulled the lancet guard off rather than '****' it is unbelievable
 
I got one of these meters about three weeks ago. As others have said, the finger pricker is awful so I'm continuing to use my old pen. As a blood glucose monitoring device only I really don't rate it, to be honest. The display isn't great and it seems a little clunky. The appeal for me was the insulin dose calculator. I took it I my DSN who had no idea how to activate. GP doesn't know either. Phoned Abbott and they told me that my DSN would need to go on a training course. DSN not willing to do that as I am the only patient that has asked for it.

Anyway, I got hold of the password and have activated the insulin dose calculator myself. You need to input your carb to insulin ratio, target range and correction dose. I've had to do a little bit of tweaking but I think I am almost there.
