I was having my followup appointment with my endocrinologist today and he has recommended byetta, which is something we talked about last time now after having read up I was expecting him to say continue with metformin and discontinue pioglitazone. He went through the usual benefits of metformin basically that diabetics that take it live longer. He also told me that there is new evidence that pioglitzone helps protect the pancreas from damage from high BS and can delay the need for insulin for 10 years. Just something I had never heard before
