Since I've started monitoring my blood sugars and keeping them within the safe range of 4 - 8 mmol . I've noticed that my skin doesn't itch like it used to. It also used to itch like mad after bathing but not now.. I hope I'm not just imagining it. It was getting to be a real bane.

There was something else too, but I've forgotten what it was .... tut :smug:

anyway, I'm pleased about it ...

PS . I've remembered... (in record time, note) what it was that I wanted to point out.

Point 2. I've noticed a less desperate thirst. I used to be gagging for water. My mouth would be so dry it felt like my throat was drying up.. I never went anywhere without my icy water.. If I left home without it I would have to go back for it and if I was going on a long journey I had to take enough of it to last me.

I still drink it as I enjoy it but I don't gag for it now. I may just be imagining it!

I used to itch like crazy on my legs and belly, claw myself to pieces it was always worse in winter, nothing now! No idea if it's related to good bg or weight loss, but I'm glad it gone :)

Oh good, well, I've always known that it is a symptom of Diabetes so I think it's connected. My feet used to itch and I once told a friend that it was a sign of D (which bothered me even then (in 2001)), as I stood there scratching my foot, but he just laughed at me as though I was some sort of hyperchondriac. I didn't tell him anything after that! He was an inconsiderate buffoon anyway!

this is interesting, i had put it down to my skin not being so stretched if you see what i mean lol if it was db related id had it for 10 years at least i reckon, thats from memory the itching could have been further back than that cant remember

Yep. IMHO It's like an early warning sign, obviously there could be other reasons for it too, but it is a recognised sysmpton of D. But I can't remember where I learned that from but have known it for many years.

That's why I want to get a grip on my BGs now. I reckon I'm heading toward D in the near future.

seems like a smart course :) prevention is better than "no" cure

Thanks... I though I might have been being overly cautious But the more I learn about it the more I want to stick to my strategy.... :singing:

If your skin feels dry then start using a moisturiser, you do not need to spend lots of money, just regular use applied in the direction of hair growth. Your skin will start to feel good and help prevent future skin damage.

Thirst is definitely a syptom of high sugars.Itching can also be a sign of poor kidney function which is often associated with diabetes. See your doctor about it.. Increasin your fat intake CAN help itchy dry skin too. I have dry brittle skin, which is a lot better when I consume fats. The new spray Vaseline body lotion is excllent too.

There ya go... so I'll be looking after my kidneys too. My dad suffered with his. I want to get some of that Vaseline lotion .. I get through a lot of lotions

...but ... I've noticed my tinnitus getting worse... hmmmm, hope it's only coincidental

Had extremely itchy legs (and arms), mainly on shins pre diagnosis, most nights had very bad ringing in the ears. My mum did have very bad psoriasis on her legs and thought I was going to get them cause they were bright red, and itching like crazy. But since learned that was also an auto immune disorder. anyway, since starting insulin and sugars under control itching completely gone, and no ringing in ears, yay. Didn't have to high fat, normal carb, low fat. Just good sugar control sorted it out. Ringing disappeared alot more gradual but the itching was more or less instant.

Oh good brett... I'm glad your tinnitus stopped... I use White Noise Generators so I expect it to be there, but they are a bit louder than normal...
The itching is a real nasty itch... I'm glad that's gone.
:woot:

I used to have really itchy skin on my shins before diagnosis - so bad I used to make myself bleed scratching. I guess it could have been the diabetes, but I also had anaemia when I was diagnosed, and the doctor said the itching might be caused by that. Whatever the cause, it's gone now and I'm happy about that!

I had really bad dry flaking skin and itching all over but mostly on my arms, legs and feet and used to scratch until it bled, it drove me mad and it used to happen when my bs was high but also since being diagnosed with diabetes my skin is extremely dry even my scalp and my hair is like straw, I have to use lots of oil based shampoo and moisturisers and even then they don't really cut it. I have tried all the e45 and emulsifying ointments and lotions, the strange thing is I had oily skin before being diagoned. I now use a cup full of Argan oil on my hair (seriously) and it still feels and dry.

Apparently there are several reasons for it ... may be worth further investigations...
