This is all very new to me (Type 1 diabetes and on-line forums), so I am still getting my head around it all!

I'm an active 36 year old so whilst I knew something wasn't right, I was surprised to get the diagnosis. I think I'm moving out of the denial phase now and will be back to work on Monday armed with all the meds and food that I might need. Brave new world.

Hope to hear from some of you.

:)

Hi Paul and welcome.

There are many experienced Type 1 diabetics here who can answer any questions you may have.

Denial is a very common reaction to diagnosis, a normal reaction to an abnormal event in our lives.

Hi and welcome,
Im t2 and new to forums too, whilst I can't help you myself I am sure someone will be along soon who will be able to point you in the right direction, in the mean time have a poke round the site there is plenty to read we are a friendly lot even if we have differing opinions and remember you are not alone.

Hi Paul and welcome to the forum :)

Pleased your moving from the denial phase to the acceptance phase, once you do this you can begin to manage your diabetes and hopefully live a full and active life, diabetes need not hold you back.

Do keep in touch with your diabetes team and provide any feedback so they can advise on adjusting your insulin doses, if they've started you on a basal/bolus insulin regime you can put your name down for a place on the DAFNE course (Google), usually they insist that you've been diagnosed 6 months before being eligible for the course but there's some very good information on the net about carb counting, the following is one such example:

Hello@PaulEllis Welcome

You may as well consider it a new adventure, it is the best strategy available.
