I'm T2 on metformin 2g and pioglitazone 45mg daily , recently increased to 45mg from 30mg. My hba1c has gone from above 100 to 57 since starting pioglitazone a few months ago.
Think I've started having some hypos but my blood sugar was 4mmol ( I'm obviously used to it being higher) would 4 be a hypo as it certainly felt like it?

For those of us on blood sugar lowering drugs such as insulin, anything under 4.0 is considered to be a hypo. Those not taking any such drugs could get numbers in the 3s - my non-diabetic partner as achieved 3.5 after a tough cycle ride.

If you are used to higher levels, you could be experiencing a false hypo. This is where our bodies are unfamiliar to the lower numbers so react like a hypo although it is not dangerously low.

I've not had this before but it definitely felt horrible and my gp has said watch out for hypos so I presumed the rise in meds could cause it

Hello,

it’s all relative I suppose.. Ones tolerance level can adjust to higher levels? (Not that these higher levels do favours.)
But, a reduction into healthy parameters can feel a little odd, till adjusted? (Somewhat like an alcoholic or illegal drug dependant withdrawing the substance?)

If using a meter then you BG could have been any where between 3.4 and 4.6 as they have a tolerance of +/- 15% and I would personally consider any thing below 3.9 as a hypo.
