Is a person who specialises in both 'Diabetes Type 2 and Heart Failure' an Endoctrinologist

I am a type 2 diabetic and also suffer from heart failure. I am 71 years of age. Some weeks ago I discovered that my prescribed Metformin medication was 50% more than the manufacturer's suggested maximum. I had been taken a prescribed 3000mg rather than a maximum of 2000mg. When I informed my doctor he immediately told me to stop taking the 3000mg and reduce it to 2000mg. At the same time he started me on 40mg Gliclazide and reduced my Ramipril from 10mg to 7.5mg. Three weeks ago I had (I think) a hypo and headed straight for the doc's. (because up to then I hadn't taken my situation seriousl). I couldn't see him but got to see the DN, nextday. Next day I turn up still feeling lousy, she takes one look at my BP readings, I get to see a doctor, and end up going to hospital with low blood pressure readings. I had various tests in hospital and no one seems to know what my problem is. I now have all my diy gear to cater to BP and BS readings, have spent a lot of time reading entries on this site, and am happy that I am on the right tack for a low carb diet. My multi daily BS readings are giving me a good idea what I can eat and keep within reasonable levels. However, and this is the main point of asking for your advice, I have this nagging feeling that I cannot reasonably expect my own gp to have the knowledge and expertise to give me the personal attention I expect. I am looking for someone (if they exist) who specialises specifically in 'diabetes type 2 and heart failure' in a wrinkly. I need to be assured that the various medicines (and there are many) that I take, are in the right dosage and quantity to suit my current medical status. I think the right person is an endoctrinologist but that is just an educated guess. Anyone got views or suggestions

I can only speak for myself edgarinuk, I see a cardiologist for heart issues and endocrinologist for diabetes ,each one treats their own area of expertise but they do correspond with each other .

Hi,

Thank you for that advice. It seems so obvious to me (Now that you have mentioned it), that is my way ahead.

Thank you

Ed

Ed,
although I don't have heart problems, I find that my endo attends to my D and my GP staff give me raised BP <G>

Sadly my HF nurse and DB nurse do not sync with each other ..but my chemist keeps a helpful eye on what's on my scrips .. And will talk to the doc for me if any meds are not going to work for me
