So, diagnosed just over a year ago, in denial until about 3 weeks go. Tried Metformin and it made me terribly I'll. Tried adjusting my diet, no real help there. So my question is, rather than try loads of pills, could I not just use insulin? Am seeing my GP tomorrow and thinking of suggesting to him, just doing research first.

It is still possible you may still have to take loads of pills as well as insulin

Type 2 diagnosed 24/01/2013.
Novomix 30, Victoza, metformin 2000mg sr (but not taking them as they play havoc with my insides,

Hi. We need a lot more information e.g. your BMI. last HBa1C, diet etc. If you are an overweight T2, than tablets will be added beyond Metformin if needed. Insulin normally comes in when 3 types of tablets aren't working any more (see NICE Diabetes Pathways). If you are overweight then I would advise a low-carb diet to get the weight down into the right region before changing meds. If you are not overweight adding more tablets is essential if your blood sugar is not good. BTW do ask for Metformin SR (Slow Release) as it will avoid the upset stomach and the GP should know this! I went thru three-level tablets before insulin but I'm a T1 rather than a mis-diagnosed T2 so every one is different.
