okies i have been diagnosed with diabetes for 13 years, always been fairly controlled until i fell pregnant 4 years ago....i lost all signs of hypos after the pregnancy (which went perfectly) i started slowly regaining signs of hypos, but the lowest ever i recorded was 1.0mmol and could still be standing and talking normally then all of a sudden drop..........on one occasion my husband said that i started fitting like some form of epilepsy fit, where i physically bit my tongue, and felt so ill afterwards.........but after a few more fits (always on a morning) and tests by doctors, i was told after a 24 hour sleep deprivation test i had energy charges or electrical abnormalties in my brain.............i have never actually been given an answer by professionals or treatments for it as to why i had these fits....i can only assume that ive hypoed early morning then naturally my body has gone into fitting...

Has anyone had anything similar?? im well controlled again now with a HB1C of 7.5mmol but im petrified i have damaged myself with a hypo or if i have any underlying probs not relating to the diabetes.....

HELP? xxx

Hi,

Have you had any its since you had tests?

Alot of people have fits for no apparent reason then never experience them again.

Fits can also be brought on by extremely low BG's, frequent severe hypoglcaemia can cause brain damage of some sorts but not always the case.

Have you noticed anything to suggest it could have affected you long term? problems with dexterity or concentration?

My ex partner is epileptic and often was asked similar questions to keep check of any changes due to frequent fits.

After an Grand mal seizure she often was extremely tired and lethargic and slept for hours sometimes as it is said to be the equivelant of a two hour gym session in under 10 seconds!

I see your hba1c is 7.5% which would indicate you have your hypo awareness back?

If your worried speak to your GP about it. Especially if you experience more seizures, which of course i hope you don't as it's a very unpleasant experience and a scary scary thing!

But like i said try not to worry too much as alot of people experience seizures for a number of reasons, never have them again and aren't affect by them whatsoever!
