Is it blip or normal?

Hi All,
Just before last Christmas I was informed that I am diabetic based on HBA1c results. In the 1st week of the new year, GP called me up to inform that my Level is 69 and ordered a repeat test of HBA1c, urea and glucose for 15th Jan. I now have been informed by my GP that the 2nd result is 35 while urea and glucose are totally normal.
I am 58 kg 5'2" , do 45 mins treadmill jogging almost every day and mostly eat lower carb with no bread or rice and sugar. So the initial HBA1c was indeed a shock for me, specially as I have no typical symptoms.
The GP was very puzzled while delivering the new results today. I did nothing much different between the two tests, maybe reduced my food intake a little bit, but that's all!
Is it really possible that I did have 69 only a month ago and now 35 with other things also within normal range?
Oh I have booked a follow up test after 6 months to confirm the new finding!

Many thanks

If there was no more than 2 weeks between the tests then something appears wrong.
You HbA1c is a measure of your average blood sugar over 12 weeks.
There is a certain bias towards the latter weeks but that would not explain your wide variation.
The 2 readings would have shared 10 weeks of a 12 week cycle so something doesn't add up.

Test results are not always accurate so they usually do a second test to confirm diagnosis. Something is obviously wrong with your results, it's highly unlikely that your hba1c has dropped from 69 to 35 in just a few weeks.

Looks like a blip in the test to me. If you have no other reasons to suspect you might have (pre)diabetes I'd assume a mistake in the lab for now.

Thank you all. I too hope that the first test was a blip. I have not done anything drastic between the two tests to bring down the number so much. Also coupled with the normal numbers for my glucose test, I am hoping that the second test is correct and hoping to continue with my lower carb and daily exercise to maintain it. Hopefully even after 6 months I should be able to get a good result.

Hi there, do you know why an hb1ac was done in the first place? Did you have any issues prior to this test being done at all? x
