Type 2 Is it Neuropathy

I was diagnosed T2 about 7 weeks ago right on the borderline of T2 . HbA1C 48 @ 6.6
But I reckon I’ve Been goin around like that for years . But I’m not on any meds just diet and exercise. and my bg levels are averaged out at 5.8
But I’ve been getting bad pins and needles in both my feet recently stingy ones and I’ve got a very weird numbing feeling in my back just under my shoulder blade . Could this be neuropathy . With my blood sugars goin down . I did gave a hypo when First put on Metformin and drank to much on Patrick’s day but not any more just wondering as Im still feelin my way along .and have heard some horror stories about neuropathy
 
hi @Peadair O Brionn there are many causes of neuropathy and we are not doctors here. Diabetic nerve pain usually begins in the fingers and toes and develops after BG has been running high for a while. Your HbA1C on diagnosis was only borderline.

Have you had your Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D levels checked as low levels of those can give similar symptoms ? Your GP should check these out.
 
If you have lowered the carb level in your diet you may want to add a tad more salt to your food as the switch from a high sodium/processed foods diet to a low carb diet can affect electrolytes. This may be the cause of the pins and needles.

As to the pain in your back, is it around the kidney area? If so, a trip to the GP may be wise and until then remember to stay hydrated and clear water is best for this.
 

Peadair, it's a phase we all go through, but please don't get into the habit of hanging every ache, pain or irritation on diabetes. In fact, I decided very early on that diabetes was never going to be my starting point, if I was trying to work stuff out.

For a while after diagnosis, I think we're all hyper-tuned-in to our bodies, trying to understand everything, and we probably "notice" things that wouldn't have crossed our minds before.

It's all a bit learning curve. You seem to be doing really well. Hopefully your tingling toes are just either you r bloods changing for the better, or a tight pair of shoes.

If you have concerns, have a chat with your nurse and see what she thinks.

don’t have a DN . My feet are getting painful now . Thought it might have been my work boots as I’m in them 9 hrs a day. and on my feet got most of that .
But the pain is there even at night in my bare feet . It’s getting worse so gonna try for and appointment on Monday
 
Properly constructed hand made leather insoles to support your arches and give complete cushioning would be my second port of call. NO rubber or store bought garbage. Of course, the feet will be sore after 9 hours, be it at work or when home
 

You're doing the right thing, having it checked over Peadair.
 
Has you GP arranged for the diabetic foot tests to be carried out, these should be done on diagnossis and annually there after.

Also do check your feet regularly.

Do check that you arent wearing socks with tight banding at the top of them.

Always wear something on your feet unless in bed.. this is the way to keep diabetic feet happy.

I take it this isnt when you have been sat cross legged etc??

There can be other explanaations other than diabetes related.. but you should be offered diabetic foot check as standard...

Have you had your feet checked by a Podiatrist lately? If not request a referral from your GP.
