Is it neuropathy??

Hi,
I have had high BG for some time. My DSN now seems to be listening to me and is adjusting my Humalin M3 up by 2units morning and evening twice weekly, I am now on 22units before breakfast and 20 units before evening meal and my levels have dropped to average 15 before evening meal and low 12 before breakfast with post prandial in low 20s to high 19s. Still a long way to go. Now to my question.

I have started to get numbness in my feet, which is most noticeable at night in bed.I have had the odd shooting pains in my toes but what is causing a problem are my legs. I now seem to be getting a permanent ache in both my legs and occasionally in my arms but my legs are constant. Painkillers (co-dydramol) do not seem to touch this ache at all.
I am used to some pain on walking,as I do suffer from cardio vascular disease, but this pain is different, it is just constantly there. It is not a sharp or severe pain just a constant, constant ache!!
Is it possibly Neuropathy? Or maybe something else??

Thanks

Mervyn

Mervyn.
Good news to hear that your DSN is starting to listen and be more understanding,
Do you take any statins for your cholestrol ?
If you do, these 'can' cause pains in the legs and arms musclular pain .
Also as a new starter on this type of insulin, check out the side effects leaflet that comes in the packaging too .
Sometimes we have to try and rule other things out medicational wise, before successfully reaching the root
of the cause.
If this is causing you discomfort ? Bothers you a lot ?
Pop along and see your GP , take any relevant leaflet with you too.
If 'nothing' relevant here, it may be the start of possible neuropathy [I have this] and YES it IS painful .
Worse at the end of the day too after being active on the feet!
Again you WILL need to see your GP , explain all to him/her and do ask for help too !
It isnt an easy side effect to live with, its with me everyday...! :(
Hope this helps?

Hi Anna,
Yes I take the maximum (80mg) dose of Atorvarstatin and have done for years without any problems

I am on 18 tablets a day plus the Insulin & painkillers and all for many years and without any real side effects. Am allergic to penicillins and am now also allergic to ibuferon (spelt wrongly?).

May have to bite the bullett and see GP, though I try not to bother him too much as I have to rely on friends, family etc to take me there.

Thanks for your help.
