Hi I have suffered from the lack of smelling things and have heard several folk who have Type1 suffer the same thing. I wonder how widespread this is and is loosing your sence of smell related to diabetes?

Hi @Odin19 I'm not aware of it being a side effect of diabetes, and it's not one I've experienced. Others may have a different view.

I'm T2 and not what I know of My mate son is T1 and we know when he's low as he smells of almonds I know sounds weird Plus he's dog sits there howling

I lost much of my sense of smell in my teens but wasn't diagnosed with diabetes (T2) until I was in my 70s, so the two are quite unrelated for me! If anything I think I might perhaps possibly blame it on the nasal drops I used to take for my bad hayfever.:wideyed:
