Is medication working?

I was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer and was given a bs test because I complained of a raging thirst. The result was 17.2 which they said might be high because of the steroids I had been given these were stopped. An appointment was made with my GP who did the hbA1c test and told me to stop drinking all the fruit juices and watch my diet. Long story short, after a year of trying diet control he has now prescribed gliclizide. I have been testing although doc said it wasn't necessary as I would be tested in 6 weeks, on average I have reading of 7.2 does this sound as if the pills are working?
On top of everything else I broke my leg and have a cast from toe to thigh which restricts exercise somewhat. I am not overweight and usually walk for miles.
I hope this is the right place for this.

7.2 iosn't too bad if this is a "finger stick" test

You'll only be sure the pills are working if you check BS before and after a meal. and compare with a day without medication.
If however you are consuming lots of carbohydrates, you may be giving the pills too much to do.
