Does anyone use a carb counting app for their T1D LCHF diet?

i'm new to carb counting and so preferably looking for a free one (skinflint as i am) for the iPhone i spotted one on http://www.carbscontrol.com and it looks ok but not many good reviews and so don't want to buy it yet unless there is a better one out there? Anything to make life easier.

I have found google pretty good for giving an estimation by typing ie "carb content of brown bread" and the answer comes up 14g amazingly helpful now i'm carb counting but i want something to add up a full meals carb content for me so i know how much insulin to use either on the mac or the iphone. Any suggestions welcome. :)

Cook and Count. It's not free but cheapish, and developed by a lady for her type 1 daughter. It can add all the carbs in a recipe, save them, has a good database and the facility to enter your own foods ( brands and unusual types of food ) Unfortunately, it seems that it is not available for Android users yet, but does work brilliantly on both an iPhone, iPad, and IPod touch

Myfitness pal app is free. You can use the food diary each day & it gives you all the nutritional value of food. If something can't be found in its data base you can scan the bar code & it'll register all the value of that item. You can also tailor it to your needs in regards to carbs, fat & protein %

Just to let you know that Android version is in construction and will be out by mid / late April. We will make announcements on our Twitter / FB and we have a mailing list on our website www.cookandcount.com to be notified when Android version is available. Thanks, Deborah

My fitness pal really is fantastic for this...I use it for everything. It's especially great for recipes as you can scan all your ingredients in and it'll work out carbs/cals/protein etc per portion.

If you're carb counting to work out your insulin dose and therefore accuracy is very important then I'd be concerned about using MyFitnessPal because the data is crowdsourced and full of inaccuracies. You also don't have the flexibility to add exact amounts, and it doesn't adjust for weight loss of a dish during cooking. Tho MFP fine for individual calorie and exercise tracking

Through experience, I have to agree with this. My fitness pal just didn't give me the degree of accuracy that I needed, and I was constantly over or underestimating the insulin dose . For the same reason, I didn't like Carbs and Cals, plus there was very little in it that was useful to me food wise .
