Is there diabetes management info available on video?

Hi all. I'm asking the question on behalf of my friend.
Dave has T2 diabetes, and has had for some time. His problem is that he is unable to read, so all the printed information is of no use to him. He doesn't have a wife/partner to help him, and he lives alone. He doesn't have a computer. I can copy any amount of information for him, but again, he can't read it. He is trying to find information on video CD, which will help him manage his T2. He needs to be able to watch the vidoe to see what is being explained. He is asking specifically info on the correct foods to buy and how to correctly prepare/cook those foods. He needs to watch something like a cooking show tailored specifically for diabetics. Is there a (say) a weekly meal plan which he could follow, again on CD. He has low-medium cooking skills. Is there anybody out there who could please suggest what may be available?

I know of nothing of an existing video but I was wondering if Dave has a computer. A helpful friend might be able to read documents to camera so that he can play them back any time he wants to.

If he has low cooking skills then he has a much bigger problem than not being able to read since he may opt for convenience or processed foods. Convenience food is not all good and no-one seems to know exactly what is in processed foods.

This reply is not much help I suppose but I didn't want you to get dispirited having had no answers. Good luck with Dave.

If you can draw or find a food pyramid that way he can see what he should be eating, low carb food. I'm sure if you search the net there will be something available. But please don't let him follow the standard advice or the standard food pyramid, its loaded with carbs e.g. bread, rice etc.

Your friend is lucky to have you.

Have you tried DUK? They have a Careline and they may be able to help.

I did google videos for type2 management but there is nothing specific there that would be of great help.

Amazon sells a dvd called 'Diabetes Care' which is a hefty £44. I don't know if it is any good or even if the information is in line with current thinking.

Perhaps a friend could read or tape some of the info from this website for him to listen to. Alternatively if he had a friend with a computer they could pose any questions he might have for him and then read him the answers!

Sorry - not much use I'm afraid!

Whoops. Having re-read your post I see that Dave does not have a computer. Maybe my suggestion could work if you yourself read to camera and burned a CD for him. As far as I can see there are not many (if any) other options.

I saw on amazon there are some mp3 downloads but I'm not sure if any are good or appropriate. I think the best advice would be that book Type 2 Diabetes by Ragnar Hanas but he'd need someone to read it to him, perhaps you could record chapters onto a voice recorder for him? He could ask his diabetes care team as they may have suggestions to help him.
