I am feeling very miserable today.
We recently moved to a lovely bungalow about 12 miles from our previous home. This of course meant we had to register with a new medical centre and being diabetic of course I had to have a complete check-up - HbA1c at the top of the list.
I was glad to have the chance to talk as my blood glucose levels have been
sky high, but this I put down to the stress of moving and imminent surgery for a hip replacement and on top of that I have developed a really nasty attack of shingles.
Now the diabetic nurse I used to see at my previous surgery was wonderful, sympathetic and always helpful. I saw her for about 10 years and then unfortunately for me she retired and was replaced by a much younger nurse who was very efficient but not quite so friendly, but very OK.
The nurse (about 40-ish) I saw today was very brusque and bossy, told me it was not unusual for somebody who has had Diabetes Type 2 for 12 years to deteriorate , especially somebody as overweight and old as me - I am in my 70s - and what do I expect when I have shingles.
I have to double my metformin, I am not to eat bananas and must never drink fruit juice (I don’t) and keep to a very strict diet - “and report back’ to her in two weeks!
Report back? I really don’t want to see this uncaring woman again.
I am desperately trying to find a more friendly person and would even travel several miles to see the Diabetes team at the local hospital.
Sorry for the long story (but I wanted to have a whinge)
Does anybody else have to see a nurse like this? I would be glad to hear anybody’s opinion.
