Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone else has issues with their diabetic team? In the way of their attitude towards you, trying to get a hold of them, rudeness, or lack of empathy and understanding? So much so, that you come off the phone to them cry nearly every time you contact them?

Or is does this just seem to be me? It's getting me so down! And really has left me in a position where I no longer want to have to deal with them and would avoid them at any costs.

Hi @Mercedes88 , I have had issues in the past with a diabetes specialist who I felt was simply killing time to get to retirement. As he put my back up, I lost interest and disengaged and it became a downward spiral. In the end, I changed hospitals (and clinics) and the difference was like night and day. This is your health, and you do not need this extra battle. Most HCPs are in the job to make a positive difference, so sometimes, it's best to just move forward. Is there a different hospital and clinic you can try?

Hi. One point. How good is your local surgery/GPs/nurses? Although I'm a LADA on Basal/Bolus, I'm still listed as T2 and hence have never been referred to a clinic. My diabetes support from the surgery is fairly good, so it may remain an option for you?

Hi @Mercedes88
welcome to the forum
Unfortunately there are people out there that are meant to help us but do the opposite with the attitudes you have experienced.

I would definitely look to see if you can change hospitals.
I have not had your issues so much myself over the years but I do have a choice of 3 hospitals within a 50 minute drive.

Hi @Mercedes88 that doesn't sound good as the posts above have said could you maybe try changing hospitals or to your Drs surgery?

You don't need 'care' like that from a diabetes team, you want a team that can support you and be there when you need them so your diabetes stays tip top

Thanks everyone, unfortunately I don't have the option to move to another hospital as that would be miles away. I am however writing to patient relations in regards to this.

I have trouble with my diabetic nurse. I have often rung to speak to them to be told they are busy. I leave a message with my questions or request a call back but never get a call. To start with I thought it was the receptionists not passing the messages on. But on my last visit, I asked the diabetic nurse why and she showed me my file on the computer which the receptionists had written down each call I made and why and what I asked. I then asked the diabetic nurse why she never responded. She couldn't, t give me an honest answer. I am under my gp surgery and not under a hospital

I have to say I have a fantastic team in Sunderland.
I had brilliant specialists in Hastings and Farnborough although one nurse in hastings was a horror. There's always one.
She nearly killed my baby with bad advice. I favoured for ignoring her advice thereafter to result in a live birth, just.

Hi @Mercedes88 welcome!
I had the same problem!the next nearest clinic is 100km away. I don't care. I go every month to a pre pregnancy clinic there. I've come on so well since I changed, my a1c coming down from over 10% to 7.5% still have a bit to go but if I hadn't taken control myself who knows where I would be now! It's taught me to grow up and speak up. Best decision I've ever made
